A Better Way Into Public Practice

Moving from corporate accounting or another finance role into public practice takes more than technical knowledge. You need to manage clients, meet compliance and professional obligations, and run the practice day-to-day.

S & H Accountants gives experienced accountants a Public Practice Licence for Accountants that lets them do this on their own terms. If you need more hands-on experience first, our mentoring can help you get there.

Licence vs Franchise

Why Choose a Limited Licence Over a Franchise?

A franchise usually means operating under someone else’s brand and rules. Our licence option works differently.

Your brand, not ours.

You build your own name in the market.

Your clients, your relationships.

You develop and manage your own client base.

Your decisions.

You stay in control of your pricing, services and business direction.

Support when you need it.

Experienced practitioners are available for guidance, without taking over your business.

You remain in control of your brand, your clients and your direction.

FAQs

It is an option for experienced accountants who want to run their own accounting practice with the support of an established firm. You operate under your own brand while having access to guidance on client work, compliance and practice operations.

It is designed for experienced accountants. Eligibility depends on your experience, qualifications and professional circumstances, so the best first step is a conversation with our team about your situation.

Normally, with a franchise, you’re working under another brand and model. With our licence option, you build your own brand, manage your own client relationships and make your own business decisions.

Support covers client work, compliance, professional obligations, practice systems and the day-to-day running of an accounting practice. You can also draw on experienced practitioners when you need guidance.

Our mentoring program is designed for exactly this situation. It gives you practical exposure to real client work and practice operations, and it can help with BAS or tax agent registration requirements as you build towards working independently.

Get in touch with S & H Accountants. We will look at your experience, qualifications and goals, then explain whether the licence, mentoring or a combination suits you.

Important information

Not a government or professional body licence. The Limited Public Practice Licence is a private commercial arrangement offered by S & H Accountants Pty Ltd. It is not a licence, registration or certificate issued by any government agency, regulator or professional accounting body.

Not an alternative to registration. This arrangement does not replace registration with the Tax Practitioners Board as a tax agent or BAS agent, or a public practice certificate from a professional accounting body, where either is required. Tax agent services and BAS services must be provided in line with the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and Tax Practitioners Board requirements.

Not a shortcut. Entry is not automatic. Each application is assessed individually on your experience, qualifications and professional circumstances, and an application may be declined.

No guaranteed outcomes. Mentoring and practical experience do not guarantee registration. Whether experience counts towards BAS agent or tax agent registration is decided by the Tax Practitioners Board, not by S & H Accountants. This arrangement does not guarantee clients, income or business results.
